ITS Network Germany is launched

On 6 December 2007, seven German ITS organisations from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Niedersachsen and North Rhine-Westphalia gathered in Munich to launch ITS Network Germany – Gesellschaft für Verkehrstelematik Deutschland. The member organisations themselves are made up of over 200 individual institutions, public authorities, small and medium-sized enterprises, scientific institutions and key multinationals.  Heinz Sodeikat from ITS Munich Germany and a former ERTICO Chairman and President & Spokesman has been voted Chairman of the Board whilst Dr. Norbert Handke of ITS Niedersachsen is the Managing Director.

For the last few years, promotion of country-wide ITS developments outside Germany have been coordinated by national ITS Associations that pool together administration, science and industry and which work together at a European and even world-wide level. In Germany this process has been limited to local and/or regional levels until now.

With the establishment of ITS Network Germany, a common platform for German ITS interests at both the regional and European level has been created.  The Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS) welcomes the establishment of this association.

Finally, ITS in Germany has a single voice with which to speak to the rest of the world.
