ITS United Kingdom reaches out to Swedish post graduate students
Creation date: 11 May 2009
ITS United Kingdom, the intelligent transport society for the UK, has collaborated with the Swedish Research School for ITS by extending an offer of membership to all the post graduates studying ITS-related topics under the auspices of the School.
The Swedish Research School for ITS is a joint project of Linköping University, Lund University, Dalarna University, Chalmers University of Technology, Royal Institute of Technology and Blekinge Institute of Technology. ITS Sweden, the Swedish colleague association of ITS (UK), provides the Secretariat for the School. The School is directed at creating new knowledge and new IT tools and services to serve the future needs of traffic planners, travellers, and logistics operators.
The students were invited to join ITS (UK) as corresponding members at the start of the 2008/09 academic year. The membership enables them to keep in touch with UK developments over the wide range of ITS topics covered by ITS (UK), and puts them in touch with their fellow students in the UK.
“ITS (UK) and ITS Sweden have long enjoyed close collaboration, cemented by the fact that the UK hosted the 2006 ITS World Congress and Sweden will do so in 2009. We are delighted to serve the future ITS leaders of Sweden in this way, at the start of their careers” says Jennie Martin, Secretary General of ITS (UK).
“One important aim of the research school is to help the doctoral students to establish personal contacts and networks within industry and universities, both nationally and internationally. The collaboration with ITS United Kingdom will therefore be of great value for the students as well as for the ITS development in Sweden” says a representative of the Swedish Research School for ITS.
One of the students, Gideon Mbiydzenyuy of the Blekinge Institute of Technology, says that “The resources provided by ITS (UK) to its members are enriching. They have particularly been so for me in satisfying my interest to stay current about new structural changes within the ITS community, be it in Europe (GINA project, facITS etc), USA (new legislation on road charging etc) etc, all the resources have been very beneficial. I hope this network does not only continue to exist but spreads further to link up other ITS communities.”
